We never can hear the words, “I love you,” enough. I’ve been married for forty-seven years and I still long to hear those words spoken to me by my wife. She is nourished and sustained in our journey together, when I share these words with her, too. Our grown sons and our two granddaughters all wait to hear these words, from us and from others. My family is not unique in our craving to hear words of love. All of us have a thirst for the quenching refreshment they bring to our lives.
We not only need to hear words of love from our family and close friends, we also need to hear words of love from God. The book of meditations, Love, God, by Deborah J. Simmons Roslak and Linda J. Orber (Resource Publications, Eugene, Oregon, 2018.) provide a daily setting for us to hear these longed for words from God. Each meditation includes a quote from a spiritual leader, commentary, a Biblical quotation and a guided meditation.
The words of love that this book shares are not shouted from the house tops. Nor are they written in the sky or proclaimed on the jumbotron. The words are softly spoken—whispered—but they lodge deep in our hearts and lives.
To all who yearn to hear God reassure them of God’s love for them, I recommend this book. You will hear God say, “I love you,” and those words will refresh and renew you for your daily journey.
