Devotions on Acts 8:26-39
Fourth Sunday in Easter
A few days of post Easter R&R motivated me to experiment with a different devotional format. I pray these will still encourage you in your walk with Jesus. I truly am interested in reading your thoughts on this different style of devotional.
Monday, Ethiopian Eunuch
“Then an angel of the Lord said to Philip, ‘Get up and go toward the South’” (Acts 8:26a).
It was important for members of the early Church to perceive themselves as being led by the Holy Spirit.
Is the idea that the Spirit of God is leading you important to you? How does the Holy Spirit guide you?
“Guide us ever, great Redeemer, Pilgrims through this barren land.” Amen.
Tuesday, Ethiopian Eunuch
“This is a wilderness road” (Acts 8:26b).
Sometimes the Holy Spirit leads us into what we view as a barren land, or wilderness.
Has the Holy Spirit ever led you along what you thought were odd or foolish paths?
Even in the middle of out doubts, Lord, may our response to you always be, “Here we are Lord, send us.” Amen.
Wednesday, Ethiopian Eunuch
“So he got up and went” (Acts 8:27a).
An important part of being led is to follow.
When have you resisted the leading of the Holy Spirit?
“O Maser let us walk with you, In lowly paths of service true.” Amen.
Thursday, Ethiopian Eunuch
“Now there was an Ethiopian eunuch …. He had come to worship” (Acts 8:27b).
The early Church grew to include many diverse groups of people.
Has the Holy Spirit ever provided you with the opportunity to meet people whom you would identify as very different from you?
Lord, we praise you that we are all your children. Enable us to always live in this truth. Amen.
Friday, Ethiopian Eunuch
”How can I unless someone guides me” (Acts 8:31)?
The Holy Spirit uses mentors in powerful ways to nurture the faith of God’s People.
Who has been a significant mentor in your life? Are you mentoring anyone in their faith?
Thank you, Lord, for the people who have taught us so much about what it means to be a follower of Jesus. Amen.
Saturday, Ethiopian Eunuch
“Starting with this scripture, he proclaimed to him the good news about Jesus” (Acts 8:35).
The Holy Spirit uses scripture to proclaim the good news to us.
How do you incorporate scripture into your daily life?
“Speak to us that we may speak in living echoes of your word.” Amen.
Sunday, Ethiopian Eunuch
“What is there to prevent me from being baptized” (Acts 8:37)?
Baptism has always been important in the lives of those who follow Jesus.
In what ways is baptism meaningful to you?
Thank you, Lord, for the gift of baptism and what you do with it in our lives. Amen.
So far I haven’t had any complaints of that sort.
