Helpful Book On Mental Hygiene
The Good Book of Mental Hygiene, Gary E. Bell (Eugene, OR, Resource Publications, 2020).
Advice comes in many shapes and sizes. Sometimes it comes in the form of clichés or jingles, like “An apple a day keeps the doctor away.” Advice can be found in encyclopedic tombs, or the pontifications of a co-worker who thinks she understands our situations better than we do. Of course, there is always Facebook and Twitter. Then there’s Gary E. Bell’s book, The Good Book of Mental Hygiene.
Bell is a licensed marriage and family therapist. His book is based on his education and his experiences. It is a short book, but it is filled with insights, encouragement and healing advice. All comes from a Christian faith perspective. Topics include depression, grief, battered and bruised marriages and relationships, self-centeredness, addictions and others. Bell’s words are helpful to individuals facing these issues and people who want to be supportive and helpful to others.
I enjoyed reading this book. I learned things that will help me cope with the challenges of life. The book provided better understanding of situations that are commonly encountered. It did so in an easy to read, down-to-earth style.
