Meditating on the Stations of the Cross is an ancient Christian practice. The stations focus on the suffering and death of Jesus. By reflecting on them Christians are able to experience the depth and breadth of God’s love. The stations’ focus is limited, however, and its use often limited to the season of Lent. Matthew Fox and Bishop Marc Andrus have written a book that expands this ancient practice and in its expansion they allow the reader to experience God’s love and grace in the Cosmic Christ from a variety of perspectives.
Their book is entitled Stations of the Cosmic Christ, (Unity Books, 2016.). Fox and Andrus have produced the book in collaboration with two artists: M.C. Richards and Ullrrich Javier Lemus. The result is a beautiful full color creation that is almost “coffee table book” quality. The book’s words and pictures draw the reader into literally an “out of this world experience,” as the Cosmic Christ is encountered.
The artwork is gorgeous. The word simple, yet profound. The reader is able to pause at each station and gaze upon the art, while reading the reflections of the artist. Fox and Andrus follow with their comments on the particular concept of the Cosmic Christ. In the silence that follows, the reader is drawn in to the heart of God.
This is a book to visit frequently. It is a book to treasure. I highly recommend it.
