This Book Issues a Call to Expand Our Horizons

It was once thought, in the not too distant past, that Christianity had the franchise on truth. After all, Jesus did say that he was “the way, and the truth, and the life. No one comes to the Father except through me” (John 14:6). Jesus didn’t say that Mohamed had the truth or anyone else. But slowly we have come to realize that Christianity doesn’t have all the truth. Other faiths have some truth. We can share our truth with each other and learn from each other. Together we can grow in our understanding and experience of God. We can also grow in our relationship with those who are different from us.

The problem we then face is that most of us have limited access to the books and resources of other faiths. We may not know the titles of the holy books and wisdom literature of other faiths. The question, “Where do we begin?” stymies and paralyzes us.

A Beginning

The book, The Call of the Mourning Dove, by Stephanie Rutt, offers us the information and the inspiration for action. This is a wonderful book that introduces its readers to spiritual material from Christianity, Judaism, Islam, Buddhism, and Hinduism.  The truths of these faiths are shared. Opportunities are presented for readers to see the world and God from a fresh perspective. Readers are enabled to experience God is new, life changing ways.

If you want to practice what you preach—not only say that other faiths have truth, but to open yourself to that truth, then then is a book I would encourage you to read. You will see things in a new light—not only the world and God, but other people, also.
